Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a mechanical or structural engineering degree with 15 years of offshore/marine/heavy industry fabrication and construction experience where there is a demonstrated track record at the senior management level. Consideration will be given to those individuals with a technical diploma, who have a similar background and track record. A degree in business and/or commerce will be considered an asset.
Additional desired competencies include excellent communication skills, results-oriented, decisiveness, team player, sizeable gas tank, top-notch organizational abilities, big picture thinking and creativity
Responsibilities
Our client, provides a broad spectrum of engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning (EPC) services with expertise in shipbuilding, ship repair, offshore fabrication, and heavy industrial fabrication. Combined with their world-class services, our client operates two well-equipped, deep-water, ice-free locations on the south coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Whereas the EPC industry is fiercely competitive and quality, deliverables and critical decision-making is paramount, a talented and seasoned General Manager is sought to affect strong leadership in day-to-day operations and to continually raise the bar.
The General Manager will lead, coordinate and manage the daily activities of the fabrication and construction facility, have overall responsibility for workforce management issues, interface with clients and participate in strategic initiatives for yard viability and sustainability. This individual will oversee multi-disciplinary teams such as: Production Management, Engineering, Labour Relations, Procurement and Logistics, Finance and Administration and Health, Safety, Environment and Quality.
Specifically, this talented professional will build dynamic and expert teams with the necessary skills to fabricate, construct, commission, and operate infrastructure and facilities to bring client assets to market. In doing so, he/she will effect strong fiscal management for both profit and loss categories while managing the budget process. Further to this, assurance of an equitable relationship and atmosphere of cooperation regarding all workforce and staff and the ability to negotiate, listen and settle disputes fairly is key for continual success.
Performance monitoring and management of all parties is critical to execute project plan timetables, meet key milestone dates and ensure timely completion. Determining alternatives, which become necessary due to situations that adversely affect timelines or budgets and managing the ever-present risk factors, is second nature.
