Responsibilities

The Company:
Our client is the largest ship manager in the world. They have 44 offices located in 26 countries and employ 1100 shore-based staff and 22,500 sea staff serving a fleet of over 600 vessels of most major ship types.

Due to expansion in their Miami office, they are looking to recruit individuals to join their Technical Management Team to assume responsibility for their Tanker fleet.

The Role:
You will have responsibility for the efficient operation of assigned ships and will work as a member of the Ship Management Team operating to Company procedures and best ship management practices whilst giving absolute regard to safety of life at sea and protection of the environment at all times.

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Planning, controlling and execution of all activities connected with maintenance, repairs, survey and certificate requirements, dry docking, conversion or modification of assigned vessels.
2. Formulating a dynamic work plan and action list with the vessel's command, to ensure that the vessel is maintained in accordance with the Owner's policy and to receive regular reports as to its progress.
3. Working with other members of the Management Team to co-ordinate all relevant information required for the preparation of the vessel running cost budget. Ensuring that strict cost control on all aspects of vessel expenditure is enforced and taking action where necessary to bring costs to budget level.
4. Monitoring of vessel performance trends including speed, fuel and lubricating oil consumptions and to take remedial actions where these are out with agreed or expected parameters.
5. Visiting the vessels at regular intervals and reporting on general condition, repairs and maintenance, crew performance, safety, environmental protection, and any actions required. Discussing with Ship's Command the work plan, running costs, spares and stores and other issues of concern and reporting on same.
6. Providing reports to Owners concerning the management, expenditure and condition of the vessel as per the Management Agreement.
7. Authorising all necessary vessel orders for stores, spares, repairs and survey within limits of authority to ensure that the vessel remains adequately stocked for safe and efficient operation and to obtain the Client's approval for any unbudgeted expenditure.
8. Working closely with the MS&Q Superintendent to ensure that repairs of all reported deficiencies, damages and non-conformities are cleared as quickly as possible.
9. Assisting the MS&Q Superintendent in the investigation of Incidents and to establish the root cause and make recommendations to prevent a recurrence. Assisting as required in any emergency response.
11. Preparing any Insurance claims and to liaise with Owners and Underwriters' representatives in processing claims and submissions of allegations.
12. Interviewing and briefing Senior Officers on the work plan and requirements prior to them joining the vessel.

The Person:
To be considered, you will have previous experience in a shore based superintendent role.

In addition to your technical expertise you will also be responsible for formulating and managing vessel budgets so commercial acumen is essential.

You must be able to confidently communicate your wishes and intentions to a wide range of people using assertiveness and diplomacy.
