Qualifications

Specific position qualifications and experience for the ideal candidate should include:
MS or BSEE (or proven equivalent experience) and a minimum of 5 years experience in a systems design engineering environment.
Hardware design experience for analog and digital circuitry at system, board, and component levels.
Practical application experience with all types of sensors (acceleration, strain, displacement, inertial, ultrasonic, and environmental) and understanding of underlying principles/physics of their operation.
Practical understanding of mechanical systems, motions, stress, pressure, flow, temperature, etc.
Experience in CAD software for PCB layout, schematic capture, circuit simulation (PSPICE), drawing (AutoCAD) and illustration, along with the standard Microsoft Office programs, with a heavy emphasis in the application of Excel in an engineering environment.
Knowledge of shipboard and offshore wiring practices and regulations.
Programming experience in C, C++, LabView, MatLab, and embedded systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Scientific Marine Services, Inc. (SMS) provides consulting engineering and monitoring system services and products to the marine and offshore industry worldwide. Our systems consist of PC/PLC based data acquisition modules, analog and digital subsystems, all types of sensors, and custom software.
This position is for a creative, self motivated, experienced Senior Electronic/Electrical Engineer who will have responsibilities in all facets of a system’s specification, design, assembly, testing, installation and client acceptance.
Work tasks for this position will include: system design; electronic, wiring, and mechanical assembly in the lab; and field installation and operation of the equipment aboard oil platforms and ships both offshore and in shipyards worldwide. Client interface, proposal writing, job costing, budget adherence, and junior personnel supervision are part of the job.
This position will be based in our Houston Texas facility. The successful candidate will initially be required to relocate for training in our San Diego area facility for up to one year.
This is a full time position. Stateside, international, and offshore travel is required.
