Qualifications
Electronics Technician (Critical Rating) - Endorsement as Electrician and/or qualified member of the engine department of any rating is preferred. The Electronics Technician is required to be proficient in the use of all electrical and electronic test and monitoring equipment during the performance of repairs and maintenance on electrical and electronic equipment aboard ship. This may include, but is not limited to, the main propulsion engine and boiler automation, engine monitoring and alarm systems, fire detection systems, bridge control systems, GMDSS equipment, internal dial telephones, cargo fuel and ballast systems, electrical power control systems, electronically controlled deck equipment such as constant tension mooring winches and/or UNREP winches, elevators and conveyors, auxiliary machinery electronic governing, and AUTOMATE controlled equipment. The Electronic Technician must be versed in standard marine engineering as well as commercial electronic practices and procedures. The Electronic Technician must be capable of communication with a variety of equipment technical representatives and his direct supervisors. Experience in using electronic repair and monitoring tools, such as oscilloscopes and multimeters a must. Work is performed on all classes of MSC civil service crewed ships. (Salary range: $44,672 to $53,895 plus overtime)
Responsibilities
The Electronics Technician is a member of the ship's engine department crew and requires an entry-level endorsement on the U.S. Coast Guard Merchant Mariners Document.
