Marine Transportation Specialist Intern Program
The Military Sealift Command (MSC) proudly introduces the Marine Transportation Specialist Intern Program. The purpose of this intern program is to create a nucleus of motivated, talented marine transportation professionals ready to lead the Military Sealift Command in the new century, in keeping with our vision: TO BE THE LEADER IN DELIVERING INNOVATIVE MARITIME SOLUTIONS SUPPORTING NATIONAL SECURITY OBJECTIVES.

The program begins at the entry-level marine transportation specialist GS-7 level. Starting salary is $31,397 which maybe higher based on related work experience. Satisfactory progress in the program will result in annual promotions through GS-9 and 11, and final promotion to GS-12 ($55,694) after the three years. The purpose of the program is to provide training and development opportunities for participants to acquire the skills necessary to perform at the GS-12 level. The majority of the three year assignment will be in Washington DC. There will however be extended training assignments outside the Washington area including travel outside the continental U.S., and aboard MSC ships. Ultimate employment will be at MSC Headquarters, MSC Area Commands and/or MSC Subordinate Components.

The retirement program includes a fixed annuity program based on time and grade in the civil service. Also, the program offers a matching funds, tax deferred program, similar to 401k programs offered in the private sector. All Government employees are paid for 10 federal holidays per year. In addition, employees accrue 13 vacation days per year. As an employee's tenure increases, the number of vacation days earned will grow to 26 days per year. Employees also have flex time and compressed workweek options.
