Overview
The Port of Barrow, located in south-west Cumbria, is well placed to serve shipping routes to Ireland, mainland Europe, the north Atlantic and beyond.
The modern shipbuilding facilities of BAE SYSTEMS Marine Ltd are located within the enclosed docks. Developments to facilitate the construction of Britain’s Vanguard Class submarines have resulted in Ramsden Dock being able to accommodate vessels up to 230 m in length, 35 m beam and 10 m draught.

Detailed Description
Barrow-in-Furness offers cruise vessels the ideal access to the English Lake District with Lake Windermere just 25 minutes by road from the dock gates.The nearby Furness Peninsular offers many other scenic attractions including medieval castles,stately homes,gardens,a cistercian abbey and internationally important wildlife sites.
The port is also iseally suited to both solid and liquid bulk cargoes. Some 20% of UK gas is piped ashore and processed at Barrow.
Barrow has long provided support for offshore oil and gas activities in the Irish sea.The Millom West gas platform was assembled in Barrow for Burlington resources during summer 2000.
Barrow is also home to the UK's largest shipyard operated by BAE Systems Marine.
Currently having 4 vessels under construction that include amphibious assault ships, a tanker and a nucleur powered submarine.
The port has extensive areas of land with sites of up to 25 acres available for storage or development.
