Overview
The Port of Hakata, which is administrated by the City of Fukuoka, is located in the northern part of Kyushu Island on the western side of Japan. The port is the oldest natural port in Japan and has played an important role as a gateway for economic and cultural exchange from China since ancient times. Hakata is the only port, west of Kobe, directly called at by the major international liner container routes such as North American and European routes.
As such, the Port of Hakata has been steadily developing as a life-supporting port which offers stable supplies for Fukuoka City and the surrounding areas and as an international trading port linking Kyushu with the world.
