Detailed Description
The Port of Brownsville, Texas connects with Gulf of Mexico via a 170-mile channelo. Located at the southermost tip of Texas on the border with Mexico, the port is the western terminus of the U.S. Inland Waterways system.

Direct rail and truck service is available to the interior of Mexico as well as thoughout the United States.

The 17-mile channel has a depth of 42 feet for the first 15 miles. the turnig basin and the remaing two miles have a depth of 36 feet. The 1200-foot turning basin has 12 docks for dry cargo, five docks for liquid cargoes and one grain elevator dock. The dry docks have a total length of 7650 feet with 703,000 square feet of transits sheds and have rail service as well as truck ramps. A privately owned grain elevator has a storage capacity of 3.8 million bushels. A total of 3.9 million barrels storage for all types of liquid cargoes is availabl;e at the five private terminals.
