The
International Committee on Seafarers Welfare (ICSW) is organising a ‘Party in
the Park’ for seafarers and their families in Luneta Park, Manilia, The
Philippines on Saturday 26 June 2010 from 9am to 2pm. The event is already
attracting widespread interest and support from a range of organisations,
unions, and shipping companies both in the Philippines and internationally.  Activities at Party in the Park include
a display by maritime cadets, cultural performances by seafarers’ wives, and

The
Secretary General of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), Admiral
Efthimios Mitropoulos, and the Philipines’ Government Secretary for Labour and
Employment, Mr Marianito Roque, will be visiting the event along with delegates
from the IMO Diplomatic Conference on Standards of Training, Certification and
Watchkeeping (STCW) who are meeting in Manila.<o:p></o:p>

Roger Harris, Executive Director of the ICSW, said “Party in the Park
will be an exciting event that will help to raise the profile of seafarers’
welfare locally and internationally. We are really pleased that the event is
gaining strong support from unions, welfare organisations, and shipping
companies.”<o:p></o:p>

Party in the Park follows on from the ITF Expo that is being held at
the same venue 23 to 25 June.<o:p></o:p>

Party in the Park is supported by the IMO, ILO, ITF, ISF, and ICMA.
It is sponsored by the following companies BW Shipping, Costa Cruises, Marlow,
