Evergreen's Environmental Excellence To Be Featured On Discovery

News Release Evergreen Marine Corp. (Taiwan) Ltd. (Head Office) November 17, 2011
TAIPEI (November 17, 2011)--- Evergreen Line's environmental philosophy and excellence will be featured in Green Room, a television program on the Discovery Channel at 7 a.m. EST (Eastern Standard Time) on Saturday, November 19, 2011. The show details the global ocean carrier's proactive green shipbuilding efforts initiated by Evergreen Group Chairman Dr. Yung-Fa Chang and helps to promote the importance of marine environmental protection.

The Green Room is an international television series distributed worldwide by Discovery Channel that deals with one of the most important issues confronting corporations, households and governments today: What we can do as individuals and as a global community to help save our planet. Each episode focuses on companies and organizations that are striving to make the right choices promoting the health of the world that we all share.

In an interview during the program by six-time Emmy Award winner and former NBC news correspondent John Holden, Evergreen's Vice Group Chairman Captain Shiuan-Yu Kuo referred to Dr. Chang's remarks, "We should not wait for the introduction of new regulations to tell us where to improve. As a responsible corporation, we should go beyond compliance and adopt clean technology to protect the marine environment and port communities."

Captain Kuo continued, "Therefore, we have made significant investments to incorporate environmental advancements into our Greenships. Our efforts are made to help protect the environment for our children and their children and to ensure that Evergreen is there to serve our customers long into the future with care and respect."

Delivered from 2005 through 2008, the Evergreen Group's ten 7,024 TEU S-class Greenships exceed all national and international regulations regarding environmental protection by incorporating design features such as double-skinned hulls, protected locations for fuel oil tanks to minimize the risk of oil leaking and cold-ironing power systems to reduce emissions while in port. Ever Superb, the fifth containership of the series, was named Ship of the Year 2006 at the 8th Lloyd's List Maritime Asia Awards on November 2, 2006.

Evergreen Line embraces the concept that only with a sustainable marine environment will there be long-term success for the shipping industry. In line with its ongoing fleet renewal program, Evergreen Line has ordered 30 more 8,000 TEU L-class Greenships from July 2010. The new green fleet will well position the container carrier to provide marine transportation service in a more environmental friendly way in the future.
