Brennan, has announced that The Honorable David T. Matsuda, Maritime
Administrator, will address the graduating class at the college’s 69th
Commencement on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at 11 a.m., in Alexander Fieldhouse.
Matsuda will receive an honorary doctorate from the college. </FONT></DIV>

Matsuda has served as the Maritime Administrator since 2010. He served as the
Acting Maritime Administrator after being appointed Deputy Maritime
Administrator by President Obama in July 2009. As Maritime Administrator,
Matsuda is the highest ranking official of the Maritime Administration of the
United States. In this role he advises and assists the U.S. Secretary of
Transportation on commercial maritime matters, the U.S. maritime industry, and
strategic sealift. </FONT></DIV>

organizations concerned with the U.S. maritime industry, including Maine
Maritime Academy and other public maritime colleges providing training and
education for professional mariners. “The Maritime Administration is critical to
the furtherance of U.S. maritime trade, workforce development, and maritime
education,” said Brennan. “The partnership that Maine Maritime Academy and our
fellow state maritime academies have with the Maritime Administration is vital
to our success. We’re honored that Maritime Administrator Matsuda will
travel to Maine to welcome the newest contingent of professional mariners to the
industry.”</FONT></DIV>

Matsuda served as the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Acting Assistant
Secretary for Transportation Policy from March 2009 until his appointment as
Deputy. Prior to that, he spent seven years on Capitol Hill. While working in
the U.S. Senate, Mr. Matsuda was engaged in the formulation and debate of most
major Federal transportation legislation as senior counsel and primary
transportation advisor to U.S. Senator Frank R. Lautenberg of New
Jersey.</FONT></DIV>

Transportation. From 1998 to 2002, he worked as an attorney with the safety law
division of the USDOT’s Federal Railroad Administration.</FONT></DIV>
