Limited(MPL) has been taking actions against its employees against the
constitution, and Employment Act, and even thought Maldives ports workers
Union(MPWU) is a recognized union by the government, international community and
the employees, Management has been threatening its members and forcing them to
not to take part in any MPWU’s activities and fired its leadership from office
for practicing their constitutional rights, and with all this trade Union
violations, Maldives Ports Limited’s management and the Government of the
Maldives <SPAN style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>has been ignoring the
concerns that International Labor Organization(ILO), International Transport
Workers Federation(ITF) others international organizations who are working to
protect rights of Employees, has raised regarding the issue employees has been
facing. We, Maldives ports workers union condemn the ignorance and acts of MPL
management. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns =
"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>
<P style="TEXT-ALIGN: justify; LINE-HEIGHT: 115%; MARGIN: 0in 0in 10pt"
class=MsoNormal><SPAN style="COLOR: black"><FONT face=Arial>MPWU works to
protect rights of ports workers and for the betterment of its Members, and to
meet this goal MPWU is also working in association with ITF and will continue
our fight to get the rights and a better future for our members. MPL management
also needs to know that because of this kind of <SPAN
style="mso-spacerun: yes"> </SPAN>actions form them will directly affects
the productivity of employees and our country, which surely is a negatives
impact to our countries economy as a whole, and for this reasons we call upon to
stop the above mentioned acts immediately without any conditions and to protect
the rights of members of Maldives Port workers union and to reinstate the
employees terminated against the law to their rightful jobs without any
conditions and to solve problems between the management of the company and the
union. We also want to note that the call on to get related statistics for this
kind of violation is also something we should really be focusing on for a better
future of our country<o:p></o:p></FONT></SPAN></P>

workers union and its members believe that it’s our responsibility to voice out
to protect our rights and at a time like this we should not be just watching and
let the top management decide everything for us, but also its our time to take
actions for a better tomorrow, for a better work environment, for a better pay
or whatever the demand that we have, and If these problems remain unsolved and
employees are abused and terminated from employment against the law and their
families continue to suffer, we, remind you that we will surely stand up against
