Airchime Manufacturing Co. Ltd., has been developing, manufacturing, and marketing acoustic signaling products since 1929. Airchime is a world class supplier of sound signaling products to various industrial sectors, including ship and boat building, railway/locomotive, and municipal emergency evacuation. Airchime was founded in 1929, at Vancouver, British Columbia, as a proprietorship with its principal emphasis being the manufacture of steam whistles for locomotives, ships, and factories. In 1948, the founder of the company invented and patented the first air horns which faithfully duplicated the sound of traditional steam locomotive whistles. This was necessitated due to the advent of the diesel locomotive. Airchime was incorporated in 1954. The company’s head office is located at Langley, British Columbia, Canada. The company owns and operates out of a 12,250 sq. ft facility constructed in 1996. Airchime products are also manufactured by licensees in the United States of America and Great Britain. The Airchime facility includes one of the largest anechoic test facilities in the world and employs state-of-the-art acoustical test equipment and instrumentation. Airchime is one of only a few companies in the world capable of original research and development of acoustic signaling products. Airchime manufactures over 150 different models of air, electric, and steam operated horns and whistles. In addition, the company has a complete line of accessory and control equipment available. Innovative product development and technology can be seen in Airchime’s Model KMJ/KM Series with such features as a self-draining design, low psi requirements resulting in energy efficiency, and cast in lightweight marine grade aluminum that provides excellent corrosion resistance. These KMJ Whistles are suitable for small workboat and commercial vessels under 75 meters (246 ft in length). The KMJ-SC self-contained units are ideal for the new fast ferry designs, casino boats, workboats and small patrol craft where an air supply is not available or desired.
