Aker BP Increases Stake in Johan Sverdrup Field Following Redetermination

By MGN EditorialJune 8, 2026 at 12:00 PM

Aker BP has raised its ownership interest in the Johan Sverdrup oil field to 31.7163 percent following completion of the unit redetermination process, reinforcing its position in one of the North Sea's most significant producing assets.

## Aker BP Boosts Johan Sverdrup Interest After Redetermination Aker BP ASA has increased its ownership stake in the Johan Sverdrup Unit following the completion of a formal redetermination process, the Norwegian oil company announced on June 8, 2026. According to a PR Newswire release issued from Lysaker, Norway, Aker BP's revised ownership interest now stands at **31.7163 percent**, up from the previous figure of **31.5733 percent**. The adjustment follows the conclusion of the redetermination process carried out by Aker BP and its partners in the unit. ### Significance of the Redetermination Redeterminations are a standard mechanism in joint venture oil field agreements, used to periodically reassess the allocation of ownership interests based on updated subsurface data and reservoir modelling. As fields are developed and more production data becomes available, the relative contributions of each licence block to the shared reservoir can be recalculated, resulting in adjustments to each partner's equity share. For Johan Sverdrup — one of the largest oil fields on the Norwegian Continental Shelf and a cornerstone of Norway's upstream production — even a modest shift in ownership percentage carries material financial implications given the field's substantial output volumes. Johan Sverdrup, operated by Equinor, reached full field production capacity of approximately 755,000 barrels of oil per day following the completion of its second development phase. The field is widely regarded as one of the most capital-efficient and low-carbon-intensity oil developments in the world, making equity positions in the unit highly prized among North Sea operators. ### Aker BP's Position The incremental increase further consolidates Aker BP's exposure to Johan Sverdrup's long-term production profile. Aker BP, which focuses exclusively on the Norwegian Continental Shelf, has positioned the field as a key contributor to its production and cash flow outlook. No financial terms associated with the redetermination adjustment were disclosed in the announcement. The revised ownership interest is expected to be reflected in Aker BP's production reporting and reserve statements going forward. *Source: PR Newswire / Aker BP ASA*
