Angola's First Non-Associated Gas Project Comes Online

By MGN EditorialMarch 17, 2026 at 01:14 PM

Azule Energy, a joint venture between Eni and BP, has put into operation Angola's first non-associated gas development project offshore.

In a significant milestone for Angola's energy sector, Azule Energy, a joint venture between Italian energy major Eni and UK-based BP, has announced the start of operations for the country's first non-associated gas development project. The project, located offshore Angola, marks a major step forward in the country's efforts to harness its natural gas resources. Unlike traditional oil and gas fields, non-associated gas projects focus solely on the extraction and utilization of natural gas, without the presence of crude oil. 'This is an important milestone for Angola's energy industry, as it represents the first non-associated gas development in the country,' said an Azule Energy spokesperson, according to Offshore Energy. 'The project will help unlock the country's vast natural gas resources and support the diversification of Angola's energy mix.' The start of operations for this project comes as Angola, like many other African nations, seeks to leverage its natural gas reserves to drive economic growth and support the energy transition. By developing non-associated gas resources, the country can reduce its reliance on oil exports and explore new avenues for domestic energy consumption and potential exports. The successful launch of this project is expected to pave the way for further investments and developments in Angola's natural gas sector, as the country aims to position itself as a key player in the global energy landscape.
