Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems and sensor technology developer Aeva have joined forces to integrate Aeva's 4D LiDAR technology into Bendix's Fusion Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), according to FreightWaves. The collaboration is aimed at delivering Level 2+ driver assistance capabilities to Class 8 heavy trucks in mass production.
The partnership represents a significant step forward in commercial vehicle safety technology, with 4D LiDAR offering enhanced perception capabilities over conventional sensor systems. Unlike standard LiDAR, Aeva's 4D technology adds instantaneous velocity data to the traditional three-dimensional spatial mapping, enabling faster and more accurate detection of moving objects — a critical advantage in collision mitigation scenarios involving large freight vehicles.
Bendix, a well-established supplier of safety systems to the North American commercial trucking market, will incorporate the Aeva sensor suite into its Fusion ADAS platform, which is designed to assist drivers in identifying and responding to potential collision threats. The system targets fleet operators running Class 8 vehicles — the heaviest category of commercial trucks — where stopping distances and reaction times present the greatest safety challenges.
