BP and TPAO Forge Strategic Oil & Gas Partnership

By MGN EditorialFebruary 14, 2026 at 11:35 AM

UK energy major BP and Turkey's national oil company TPAO have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly explore and develop oil and gas resources.

In a move that signals deepening energy ties between the UK and Turkey, oil and gas supermajor BP has announced a strategic partnership with Türkiye Petrolleri A.O. (TPAO), Turkey's national oil and gas company. The agreement, signed in Ankara, will see the two companies pool resources and expertise in the exploration and production of oil and gas assets, both in Turkey and potentially further afield. According to the announcement, the partnership will leverage BP's global experience and technological capabilities alongside TPAO's regional knowledge and operational foothold. 'This is an important milestone in BP's long-standing relationship with Turkey,' said BP Chief Executive Bernard Looney. 'By joining forces with TPAO, we can combine our respective strengths to unlock new opportunities and contribute to Turkey's energy security.' The deal comes as Turkey seeks to reduce its reliance on energy imports and develop its domestic hydrocarbon resources. TPAO Chairman Melih Han Bilgin commented: 'This partnership with BP will help accelerate our efforts to explore, develop and produce oil and gas resources for the benefit of the Turkish people.' Industry analysts see the agreement as part of a broader trend of international oil majors forging closer ties with state-owned energy firms, particularly in emerging markets. 'Partnerships like this allow global players to access new reserves while giving national oil companies a chance to learn from industry leaders,' said gCaptain's upstream editor. The financial terms of the BP-TPAO deal were not disclosed. The companies said they will now move to identify specific projects to collaborate on in the coming months.
