Kinetics Acquires LNG Carrier for FSRU Conversion, Expanding LNG Infrastructure Fleet
By MGN Editorial•September 30, 2026 at 12:00 PM
London-based Kinetics has announced the acquisition of the LNG carrier Arctic Voyager for conversion into a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit, to be named LNGT Akdeniz, further strengthening its LNG infrastructure portfolio.
## Kinetics Expands LNG Infrastructure with New FSRU Conversion
London-headquartered Kinetics has announced the acquisition of the LNG carrier *Arctic Voyager*, which will undergo conversion into a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) to be designated *LNGT Akdeniz*, according to a company statement released on 30 September 2026.
The move signals a continued strategic push by Kinetics to grow its LNG infrastructure fleet at a time when global demand for flexible, cost-effective gas import solutions remains robust. FSRUs have become an increasingly attractive alternative to land-based regasification terminals, offering faster deployment timelines and lower capital expenditure — factors that have driven significant fleet growth across the sector in recent years.
The name *LNGT Akdeniz* — with 'Akdeniz' meaning 'Mediterranean Sea' in Turkish — may indicate the vessel's intended operational region, though Kinetics has not yet confirmed a specific deployment location or offtake agreement in its initial announcement.
The conversion of existing LNG carriers into FSRUs is a well-established practice in the industry, allowing operators to repurpose aging or surplus tonnage into high-value infrastructure assets. The process typically involves the installation of regasification equipment and modifications to mooring and offloading systems, enabling the vessel to receive LNG from shuttle tankers, regasify the cargo, and deliver natural gas directly into onshore pipeline networks.
The acquisition underscores the continued appetite among LNG infrastructure operators to expand capacity as European and emerging-market economies seek to diversify energy supply chains and reduce dependence on pipeline gas. Demand for FSRU capacity has remained elevated since the energy supply disruptions of the early 2020s, with a number of new projects progressing across Southern Europe, the Mediterranean, and Southeast Asia.
Kinetics did not disclose the acquisition price, the identity of the seller, or a projected timeline for the completion of the conversion works.
