Maritime Industry Briefing: Aker Solutions Wins Offshore Wind Substation Contract; GomSpace Expands Maritime Surveillance Satellite Fleet

By MGN EditorialJuly 1, 2026 at 11:10 AM

Norwegian contractor Aker Solutions secures a new European offshore wind HVDC substructure deal, while GomSpace signs a 24.4 MSEK contract to deliver additional CubeSats for maritime surveillance specialist Unseenlabs.

## Maritime Industry Briefing ### Aker Solutions Lands European Offshore Wind Substation Contract Norwegian offshore contractor Aker Solutions has been awarded a new contract to deliver a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) substructure for an undisclosed European offshore wind project, according to a filing on the Oslo Børs. The contract scope encompasses engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), positioning Aker Solutions as a key supplier in the growing European offshore wind build-out. While the customer and project location have not been disclosed, the award reflects continued strong demand for offshore electrical infrastructure as European nations accelerate their transition to renewable energy. HVDC substructures are critical components in large-scale offshore wind developments, enabling efficient long-distance power transmission from offshore generation assets to onshore grids. Aker Solutions has been actively expanding its renewables portfolio alongside its traditional oil and gas services business, and this latest award underscores the company's strategic pivot toward offshore energy transition work. Splash247 reports the deal was announced via an Oslo Børs filing, though financial terms were not disclosed. --- ### GomSpace Expands Unseenlabs CubeSat Constellation for Maritime Monitoring Swedish satellite manufacturer GomSpace has signed an additional contract valued at 24.4 million Swedish kronor (MSEK) with French maritime radio-frequency intelligence firm Unseenlabs, the company announced on 1 July 2026. Under the agreement, GomSpace will deliver two new CubeSats to expand Unseenlabs' existing constellation, which is used to detect and track vessels at sea — including those that have disabled or are not transmitting Automatic Identification System (AIS) signals. The new satellites will increase the service capacity of the current generation already in orbit. Unseenlabs specialises in vessel behaviour analysis and dark vessel detection, services that are increasingly in demand from navies, coast guards, port authorities, and commercial shipping stakeholders seeking to monitor illicit activity, sanctions evasion, and illegal fishing. The contract extension signals growing commercial confidence in space-based maritime domain awareness as a complement to traditional surveillance methods. GomSpace, listed on the Stockholm stock exchange, has established itself as a key hardware supplier for small satellite constellations serving the maritime sector. --- *Sources: Splash247, PR Newswire*
