Maritime Industry Briefing: VLCC Sale, Beverage Packaging Forecast

By MGN EditorialMarch 24, 2026 at 12:41 PM

A 26-year-old VLCC tanker has been sold for further trading, while the global beverage packaging market is projected to grow at nearly 7% annually through 2032.

## VLCC Tanker Sold for Further Trading According to a report from Splash247, a 2000-built VLCC tanker named Kin A has been sold to undisclosed interests and renamed Helga. The 298,000 DWT vessel, previously flagged in Comoros, is no longer classed by any member of the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS). The 26-year-old Hitachi-built tanker has been sold for continued trading, despite its advanced age. 'Further trading' in this context typically means the vessel will undergo repairs and modifications to extend its operational lifespan, rather than being sent for demolition. Older VLCCs can still be economical to operate in the right market conditions. ## Beverage Packaging Market to Reach $210 Billion by 2032 A new market study from Vyansa Intelligence projects the global beverage packaging market will grow at a CAGR of 6.86% between 2026 and 2032, reaching $210 billion in value. According to the report, the market growth is 'primarily driven by rising global beverage consumption, increasing demand for sustainable packaging solutions, and the growing popularity of innovative packaging formats.' Factors like the shift towards eco-friendly materials and the expansion of the e-commerce channel for beverage sales are also contributing to the projected market expansion. The beverage packaging industry is a key segment for many maritime logistics providers, from container shipping to bulk liquid transportation. This forecast indicates continued strong demand for reliable, efficient supply chain services to support the global beverage market in the coming decade.
