Nanjing Tanker Expands Chemical Tanker Fleet with Newbuild Trio
By MGN Editorial•March 5, 2026 at 10:45 AM
Chinese shipping company Nanjing Tanker invests in three new chemical tanker newbuilds to expand its fleet.
In a move to bolster its chemical tanker capabilities, China Merchants Nanjing Tanker has announced plans to add three new vessels to its fleet, according to a report from Seatrade Maritime.
The company, a subsidiary of China Merchants Group, will be constructing the trio of chemical tankers at undisclosed shipyards. The new ships will join Nanjing Tanker's existing fleet of over 30 vessels, which includes both chemical and oil tankers.
"This latest investment demonstrates Nanjing Tanker's commitment to growing its specialized chemical shipping segment," said industry analyst James Frew of Maritime Strategies International. "Chemical tankers are in high demand as the global economy continues to rely on the safe transportation of these vital liquid cargoes."
The new vessels will be capable of carrying a range of chemical products, providing Nanjing Tanker with greater flexibility to serve its customer base across Asia and beyond. The company has not disclosed further details on the size, specifications or delivery timelines for the newbuild trio.
This fleet expansion comes as the global chemical tanker market is projected to see steady growth in the coming years, driven by rising demand for chemicals in emerging markets. Shipowners are positioning themselves to capitalize on these market dynamics through strategic investments in modern, efficient tonnage.
