APTIM-EnergySolutions joint venture wins seat on major U.S. Navy contract for demolition and environmental remediation work at the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard in San Francisco.

The U.S. Navy has awarded a $999 million contract for demolition and environmental cleanup work at the former Hunters Point Naval Shipyard in San Francisco, California. The contract was awarded to a joint venture between APTIM Radiological Services and EnergySolutions, which will compete for task orders to facilitate the property's transfer for beneficial reuse. According to the press release, the APTIM-EnergySolutions JV will provide 'demolition, construction, supervision, and related task orders' as part of the Navy's efforts to prepare the former shipyard site for redevelopment. The Hunters Point Naval Shipyard operated from 1870 to 1974 and was used for ship repair, maintenance, and other industrial activities that have left behind environmental contamination. 'This award represents a significant milestone in the ongoing remediation and redevelopment of the Hunters Point Naval Shipyard,' said an APTIM spokesperson. 'We look forward to working closely with the Navy and local stakeholders to safely and efficiently execute this important project.' The $999 million contract ceiling provides ample funding for the extensive demolition and environmental cleanup required at the 500-acre former shipyard site. The Navy has been working for years to transfer portions of the property to the City of San Francisco for redevelopment, but progress has been slowed by the scale of the remediation effort. This latest contract award is a sign that the Navy is accelerating its efforts to prepare the site for its next chapter, which is expected to include a mix of residential, commercial, and recreational uses under the city's redevelopment plan.
