SBM Offshore Subsidiary Designs CO2 Transport and Injection Solution for North Sea

By MGN EditorialFebruary 5, 2026 at 04:54 PM

SBM Offshore's IMODCO Terminals subsidiary has secured a contract to design a CO2 transport and injection solution for the Southern North Sea.

SBM Offshore, the Netherlands-headquartered offshore energy company, announced that its subsidiary IMODCO Terminals has been awarded a front-end engineering design (FEED) contract for a CO2 transport and injection solution in the Southern North Sea. According to the company's press release, the solution will enable the transport and injection of captured CO2 into offshore reservoirs for permanent storage. This project is part of efforts to develop carbon capture and storage (CCS) infrastructure in the North Sea region. 'This award demonstrates our ability to leverage our extensive experience in offshore floating systems to support the energy transition,' said Bruno Chabas, CEO of SBM Offshore. 'We are excited to contribute our expertise to this important CCS project in the Southern North Sea.' The FEED study will assess the technical and commercial feasibility of the CO2 transport and injection system, which could involve the use of a floating storage and offloading (FSO) vessel or other offshore infrastructure. The results of the study will help determine the optimal solution for the project. This announcement comes as the maritime industry continues to explore ways to reduce its carbon footprint and support the transition to a lower-emissions future. CCS technology is seen as a key enabler for decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors like shipping and offshore energy production.
