Shell Secures LNG Supply Agreement with Vietnam's PV Gas Amid Growing Southeast Asian Energy Demand

By MGN EditorialJuly 6, 2026 at 01:45 PM

Shell Eastern Trading has signed an LNG supply agreement with Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV Gas), reinforcing the energy major's position in Southeast Asia's rapidly expanding liquefied natural gas market.

## Shell Inks LNG Deal with PV Gas as Vietnam Accelerates Energy Transition Shell Eastern Trading (Shell Eastern LNG), a wholly owned subsidiary of the UK-headquartered energy giant Shell, has entered into a liquefied natural gas supply agreement with Petrovietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV Gas), a subsidiary of Vietnam's state-owned national energy group Petrovietnam, according to Offshore Energy. The agreement underscores Vietnam's growing appetite for LNG as the country seeks to diversify its energy mix and reduce reliance on coal-fired generation. Vietnam has emerged as one of Southeast Asia's most active LNG import markets in recent years, driven by rising industrial energy demand and government commitments to cleaner fuel sources. For Shell, the deal strengthens its commercial footprint in the region at a time when global LNG trade flows are being reshaped by shifting demand patterns across Asia. Shell Eastern LNG, operating out of Singapore, serves as a key trading and supply hub for the company's Asia-Pacific LNG portfolio. PV Gas plays a central role in Vietnam's domestic gas infrastructure, managing the country's pipeline networks and gas processing facilities. The company has been at the forefront of efforts to develop LNG import terminal capacity in Vietnam, positioning itself as the primary conduit for bringing regasified LNG into the national grid. The agreement reflects a broader regional trend: Southeast Asian nations are increasingly turning to long-term LNG supply arrangements to underpin energy security as domestic gas reserves mature and electricity demand continues to climb. Vietnam's power sector, in particular, has identified gas-fired generation as a critical bridging fuel in its transition away from coal. Financial terms and supply volumes were not disclosed. Further details are expected as Vietnam's LNG import infrastructure comes online in the coming years.
