Shell Recharge and SINEXCEL Launch Joint Innovation Laboratory for EV Charging Technology
By MGN Editorial•June 18, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Shell Recharge and Chinese power electronics firm SINEXCEL have inaugurated a joint innovation laboratory in Shenzhen, marking a new milestone in their collaboration to advance electric vehicle charging solutions.
## Shell Recharge and SINEXCEL Open Joint EV Charging Lab in Shenzhen
Shell Recharge and SINEXCEL (300693.SZ) have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding and inaugurated the Shell Recharge–SINEXCEL Joint Laboratory in Shenzhen, China, signalling a deepening partnership aimed at accelerating innovation in electric vehicle (EV) charging technology.
The announcement, reported via PR Newswire on 18 June 2026, marks what both companies describe as a significant new milestone in their ongoing collaboration. The Shenzhen-based facility is expected to serve as a dedicated research and development hub, bringing together Shell's global EV charging network expertise with SINEXCEL's established capabilities in power electronics and energy conversion systems.
While the partnership is primarily focused on land-based EV charging infrastructure, the development carries broader relevance for the maritime sector. Port operators and terminal authorities worldwide are increasingly investing in electrification infrastructure to support shore power systems, electric harbour craft, and zero-emission cargo handling equipment. Advances in high-capacity charging technology developed through initiatives such as this joint laboratory could accelerate the deployment of compatible solutions at port facilities.
SINEXCEL, listed on the Shenzhen Stock Exchange, specialises in modular power electronics and has an established presence in industrial and commercial energy management applications. Shell Recharge, the EV charging division of Shell, operates one of the world's largest public charging networks.
The establishment of a dedicated joint laboratory underscores the growing trend of major energy companies forming strategic technology partnerships to meet rising demand for electrification solutions across transport sectors. For the maritime industry, where port decarbonisation and onshore power supply (OPS) infrastructure remain key regulatory priorities under IMO and EU frameworks, such technological developments are closely watched.
