Shipping Reliability Scorecard, Wheat Prices, and Roofing Trends

By MGN EditorialFebruary 7, 2026 at 03:49 AM

A roundup of recent maritime industry news, including a review of carrier schedule reliability, an update on wheat prices, and emerging trends in the roofing and remodeling industry.

## Carrier Schedule Reliability Scorecard According to the latest Xeneta Schedule Reliability Scorecard, carrier on-time performance saw mixed results in 2025. The report, which analyzes reliability data across over 200 operators and 25,000 port pairs, found that global schedule reliability averaged 68.4% for the year. 'While there were pockets of improvement, the industry as a whole is still struggling to maintain consistent, reliable service,' said Xeneta CEO Patrik Berglund. 'Carriers will need to focus on strengthening their operational resilience to meet rising customer expectations.' The report highlighted top-performing carriers, with Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) and Maersk leading the way globally. Regional variations were also noted, with carriers on the Transpacific trade recording higher reliability than those on the Asia-Europe and Transatlantic routes. ## Wheat Prices Climb on Supply Concerns Wheat futures in the United States have risen towards a two-month high, trading above $5.35 per bushel. The uptick comes amid lingering concerns over potential winterkill damage to crops in the US Great Plains and parts of southern Russia. 'The renewed bouts of severe cold have revived worries about tightening global wheat supplies,' said an analyst at Hellenic Shipping News. 'This is putting upward pressure on prices, which had previously pulled back from January's highs.' Wheat is a critical global commodity, with disruptions to production and trade flows having significant implications for food security and shipping demand. Industry participants will be watching developments in key growing regions closely in the coming months. ## Roofing and Remodeling Trends for 2026 In the construction sector, a new report from Leap, a provider of business management software, highlights five key trends that roofing and remodeling contractors should be aware of in 2026: 1. Increased demand for sustainable, energy-efficient roofing solutions 2. Rising material costs and supply chain challenges 3. Labor shortages and the need for workforce development 4. Growing homeowner emphasis on curb appeal and aesthetic upgrades 5. Adoption of digital tools to streamline operations 'Contractors who can adapt to these market shifts will be best positioned to capitalize on the continued strength of the residential remodeling segment,' said Leap CTO Bill Parker. 'Staying ahead of trends will be crucial for maintaining a competitive edge.' The report underscores the importance of roofing and construction activities to the broader maritime ecosystem, from the transportation of raw materials to the movement of finished goods.
