SLB OneSubsea Wins BP Contract for Thunder Horse Subsea Boosting System in Gulf of Mexico

SLB OneSubsea has secured an engineering, procurement, and construction contract from BP to deliver a subsea boosting system for the deepwater Thunder Horse project in the US Gulf of Mexico.
## SLB OneSubsea Secures BP Contract for Thunder Horse Boosting Work
SLB OneSubsea, the subsea technology joint venture backed by SLB, Aker Solutions, and Subsea7, has been awarded a contract by BP to provide a subsea boosting system for the supermajor's Thunder Horse project in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico, according to Splash247.
The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract covers the delivery of a subsea boosting system designed to enhance production recovery at the Thunder Horse field, one of BP's flagship deepwater assets in the Gulf of Mexico. Thunder Horse, which sits in water depths of approximately 6,050 feet, has been a cornerstone of BP's Gulf of Mexico operations since production began in 2008 and remains one of the largest producing platforms in the region.
Subsea boosting technology plays a critical role in extending the productive life of mature deepwater fields by maintaining reservoir pressure and increasing flow rates as natural reservoir energy declines over time. The award underscores continued operator investment in maximising recovery from existing deepwater infrastructure rather than pursuing entirely new field developments — a trend that has gained momentum as operators balance capital discipline with production targets.
The contract represents a significant win for SLB OneSubsea, which was established to combine the subsea processing and boosting expertise of its three parent companies into a dedicated joint venture. The collaboration brings together SLB's reservoir and technology capabilities, Aker Solutions' subsea production systems expertise, and Subsea7's offshore project execution strengths.
BP's decision to invest in boosting infrastructure at Thunder Horse signals confidence in the long-term viability of the asset and aligns with broader industry efforts to optimise production from existing Gulf of Mexico deepwater fields. The Gulf of Mexico continues to attract significant subsea technology investment, with operators increasingly turning to tiebacks and production enhancement solutions to sustain output levels.
Further details regarding contract value and project timeline were not disclosed at the time of reporting.
