Van Oord Newbuilds to Feature TMC Compressed Air Systems in Subsea Rock Installation Fleet Expansion
By MGN Editorial•June 8, 2026 at 12:00 PM
Norwegian compressed air specialist TMC has secured an order to equip two new subsea rock installation vessels being constructed for Dutch marine contractor Van Oord, signalling continued investment in specialised offshore construction tonnage.
## Van Oord Newbuilds to Feature TMC Compressed Air Systems
Norway-based compressed air systems designer TMC has been awarded a contract to supply marine compressed air systems for two subsea rock installation vessels currently under construction for Van Oord, the Netherlands-headquartered marine contractor, according to Offshore Energy.
The order underscores the continued demand for specialised offshore construction vessels as the energy sector — both conventional and renewable — drives sustained investment in subsea infrastructure. Subsea rock installation vessels play a critical role in pipeline protection, cable burial, and the stabilisation of seabed infrastructure, making them essential assets for offshore wind farm development as well as oil and gas projects.
TMC, which focuses exclusively on compressed air solutions for the marine and offshore industries, will provide systems integral to the vessels' operational capabilities. Compressed air systems aboard offshore construction vessels support a wide range of functions, including instrumentation, control systems, and deck machinery operations — making reliability and efficiency key procurement considerations for owners and operators.
Van Oord is one of the world's leading dredging and marine engineering contractors, with an extensive portfolio spanning offshore wind, oil and gas, and coastal infrastructure. The addition of two purpose-built subsea rock installation vessels reflects the company's strategy to maintain a modern, capable fleet aligned with growing project demand, particularly in the European offshore wind sector where cable and foundation protection works represent a significant and expanding workload.
The contract represents a further endorsement of TMC's technology in the competitive offshore newbuild market, where system suppliers are increasingly selected on the basis of energy efficiency credentials alongside proven operational performance.
Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. Further details on the vessels' specifications, including the shipyard handling construction and the anticipated delivery schedule, were not immediately available at the time of reporting.
