Venture Global Expands LNG Export Capacity in Louisiana

By MGN EditorialMarch 17, 2026 at 01:14 PM

Venture Global receives approval to increase liquefied natural gas exports from its facility in Louisiana, further boosting the state's energy export capabilities.

In a move that solidifies Louisiana's position as a major player in the global liquefied natural gas (LNG) market, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has granted Venture Global the green light to expand exports from its LNG facility located south of New Orleans. Venture Global, an American producer of LNG sourced from North American basins, will now be able to significantly increase the volume of LNG it can export from its Pelican State facility. This multibillion-dollar project expansion is expected to further strengthen Louisiana's role as a key energy exporter on the world stage. 'This approval is a testament to Venture Global's commitment to responsibly developing North America's abundant natural gas resources and delivering reliable LNG supply to our international customers,' said Mike Sabel, CEO of Venture Global. 'We are proud to continue investing in the state of Louisiana and creating high-quality jobs for the local community.' The expansion comes as global demand for cleaner-burning natural gas continues to rise, with LNG serving as a critical bridge fuel in the transition to renewable energy sources. Louisiana, with its strategic Gulf Coast location and robust energy infrastructure, is well-positioned to capitalize on this growing market. 'Louisiana's energy sector is a driving force behind our state's economic prosperity,' said Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards. 'This project expansion by Venture Global will further solidify our position as a leader in LNG exports, creating good-paying jobs and generating valuable tax revenue to support our communities.' According to industry analysts, the Venture Global project expansion is part of a broader trend of increased investment in U.S. LNG export capacity, as the nation seeks to meet surging global demand and strengthen its energy security. As the world navigates the energy transition, Louisiana's role as a premier LNG hub is expected to only grow in importance.
