Borr Drilling Expands Foothold in Mexico as Paratus Exits Jack-up Market
By MGN Editorial•March 24, 2026 at 12:41 PM
Borr Drilling's Mexican joint venture is set to welcome five jack-up rigs as Paratus Energy Services offloads its drilling operations and fleet.
In a significant shift in the offshore drilling landscape, Bermuda-based Paratus Energy Services is closing its jack-up rig business, with its subsidiary Fontis Finance offloading the operations and fleet to a new joint venture between Borr Drilling and CME.
According to Offshore Energy, the newly established 50/50 joint venture between subsidiaries of Bermuda-based Borr Drilling and BC Ventures, known as Proyectos Globales de Energía y Servicios CME (CME), will be welcoming five of Paratus' jack-up rigs. This move comes as Paratus, through its Fontis Finance unit, is exiting the jack-up rig market altogether.
The transaction highlights Borr Drilling's growing foothold in the Mexican offshore energy sector, where the company has been actively expanding its presence. The addition of the five Paratus rigs to Borr's Mexican joint venture underscores the company's strategic focus on capitalizing on the country's offshore opportunities.
'This transaction represents an important milestone for Borr Drilling as we continue to strengthen our position in the Mexican market,' said Patrick Schorn, CEO of Borr Drilling, in a statement. 'We are pleased to welcome these high-quality assets and look forward to working with our partners at CME to deliver safe and efficient operations for our customers.'
The move also reflects the broader shifts and consolidation taking place in the offshore drilling industry, as companies navigate the evolving market dynamics and seek to optimize their asset portfolios and geographic footprints. The Paratus exit from the jack-up segment aligns with this trend, allowing the company to focus on other aspects of its energy services business.
As the offshore energy sector continues to evolve, strategic partnerships and fleet optimization will likely remain key themes for industry players like Borr Drilling as they position themselves for future growth and opportunities.
