Chevron Expands Mediterranean Gas Production with Hanwha Ocean Contract
By MGN Editorial•March 5, 2026 at 08:42 PM
Chevron taps South Korean firm Hanwha Ocean to fabricate modules for a planned expansion of its natural gas export capacity off the coast of Israel.
In a move to boost its natural gas production and export capabilities in the Mediterranean, U.S. energy giant Chevron has awarded a contract to South Korea's Hanwha Ocean for module fabrication work.
According to an announcement from Offshore Energy, Chevron's subsidiary Chevron Mediterranean Limited (CML) has hired Hanwha Ocean to fabricate modules for the planned expansion of gas export capacity from Chevron's massive Leviathan natural gas field project off the coast of Israel.
The Leviathan field, which began production in 2019, is one of the largest natural gas fields discovered in the world over the past decade. Chevron's expansion plans aim to increase the field's gas export capacity, likely in response to surging global demand for natural gas as an alternative to Russian supplies.
'This award demonstrates Chevron's continued commitment to developing the Leviathan field and delivering natural gas to regional and global markets,' said Mark Hatfield, managing director of Chevron Eurasia Pacific Exploration and Production.
In a separate story, offshore fabrication firm Lamprell has been contracted by India's state-owned Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) to replace 285 kilometers of subsea pipeline in the country's offshore fields. The project will involve engineering, procurement, construction, and installation work, underscoring the ongoing infrastructure upgrades taking place in India's energy sector.
These latest contract awards highlight the continued investment and expansion activities across the global offshore energy industry, as companies work to meet rising worldwide demand for oil, gas, and other energy resources.
