Germany's SEFE has finalized a multi-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with Argentina's Southern Energy (SESA) as Europe grapples with energy security concerns.
In a move to bolster its energy security, Germany's Securing Energy for Europe (SEFE) has finalized an 8-year liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply agreement with Argentina's Southern Energy (SESA), according to a report from Offshore Energy.
The deal comes as Europe faces rising energy security concerns in the wake of geopolitical tensions and supply disruptions. SEFE, formerly known as Gazprom Germania, has been working to diversify its gas sources since Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
'This long-term LNG supply agreement with SESA is an important step in SEFE's strategy to secure reliable and affordable energy supplies for Germany and Europe,' said SEFE CEO Egbert Laege. 'It demonstrates our commitment to finding new, sustainable energy solutions to address the current energy crisis.'
Under the agreement, SESA will supply SEFE with LNG from its facilities in Argentina. The deal is expected to help Germany reduce its reliance on Russian gas imports and strengthen its energy resilience.
'This partnership with a major European energy company is a significant milestone for SESA as we continue to expand our global LNG footprint,' said SESA President Juan Gutiérrez. 'We look forward to working closely with SEFE to deliver reliable and cost-effective natural gas to the European market.'
The announcement comes as European nations scramble to secure alternative energy sources and infrastructure to reduce their dependence on Russian fossil fuels. Experts say long-term LNG supply agreements like this one will be crucial for Europe's energy security in the years ahead.
