By MGN Editorial•March 24, 2026 at 12:41 PM
SBM Offshore has been awarded the FEED contract for a new FPSO vessel to be deployed in Guyana's growing offshore oil industry.
In a significant development for Guyana's burgeoning offshore oil and gas sector, SBM Offshore, a leading provider of floating production solutions, has been awarded a contract by ExxonMobil to carry out front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies for a new floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel.
According to the announcement, the FPSO will be deployed at one of ExxonMobil's oil projects offshore Guyana, further solidifying the country's position as an emerging oil and gas powerhouse in South America. The FEED studies will lay the groundwork for the engineering, procurement, construction, and installation (EPCI) of the FPSO unit.
'This award is an important milestone in SBM Offshore's long-standing relationship with ExxonMobil and underscores our commitment to supporting the development of Guyana's offshore resources,' said Bruno Chabas, CEO of SBM Offshore. 'We look forward to applying our extensive experience and expertise to deliver a world-class FPSO solution for this project.'
Guyana has seen a remarkable rise in offshore oil and gas activity in recent years, with multiple major discoveries made by ExxonMobil and its partners. The country is on track to become a significant oil producer, with production expected to reach over 1 million barrels per day by 2025. The award of this FPSO contract to SBM Offshore is a testament to Guyana's growing importance in the global energy landscape.
The FEED studies are expected to be completed in the coming months, paving the way for the next phase of the project. Maritime industry observers will be closely watching developments as Guyana continues to unlock its offshore hydrocarbon potential with the help of experienced partners like SBM Offshore.
