Skylark Labs has announced the deployment of its fixed foreign object debris detection system at major commercial airports, providing continuous runway safety monitoring.
Skylark Labs, an Indian technology company, has announced the deployment of its Fixed Foreign Object Debris (FOD) detection system at major commercial airports around the world. The system provides continuous, autonomous monitoring of airport runways to identify potential hazards without the operational constraints of traditional mobile vehicle patrols.
According to the press release, Skylark Labs' FOD detection system uses advanced computer vision and machine learning algorithms to continuously scan runways for foreign objects that could pose a risk to aircraft. The fixed sensors are installed along the runway and operate 24/7 to detect and alert airport authorities of any debris, enabling rapid response and removal.
'Foreign object debris on airport runways is a critical safety concern that can lead to significant damage and disruption,' said Skylark Labs CEO Arjun Mehta. Runway incursions and bird strikes remain major challenges, with the global aviation industry reporting over 13,000 such incidents in 2025 alone.
